Stretch Hinterberg Knob Mods

Objective:  Simplify assortment of knobs at the ends of the frame.

The ideas for these changes came from other similar solutions found in the Yahoo group.

Many complain the knobs tighten at the wrong times.

This set-up relies solely on the ratchet system for maintaining tension on the quilt.

The vertical adjustments relies on the just tight enough slide principal.

Purchases a few nuts and washers......

Nylon Insert Lock Nuts

These nuts can be tightened to the desired level, and will hold that position and not vibrate loose.

Used in this case to stop the nut from tightening.

Acorn Nuts

Used on the ends of protruding threads for decorative purposes, and to avoid sharp ends.

Used on the height adjustment screws.

Left Side Ends Right Side

View of the ends with all the expensive plastic handled nut replaced.

Both carriage rail bar nuts are replaced with standard washer & nuts.

Add an "Acorn Nut" for decoration.

  Belly Bar
This arrangement allows the belly bar to rotate freely, with minimal slack.

This is accomplished with a standard nut and an acorn nut tightened against each other.

(common term is "jam nuts")

  Backing Bar
This arrangement allows the backing bar to rotate freely, with minimal slack.

This is accomplished with a single

"Nylon Insert Lock Nut"

  Rear Bar
This arrangement allows the rear bar to rotate freely, with minimal slack.

This is accomplished with a single

"Nylon Insert Lock Nut"

The "Acorn Nut" is only to protect the quilter and all their friends, from injury

  Height Adjustment
This arrangement allows the vertical adjustment to slide.  The thickness and number of washers will determine how tight you want this and still allow vertical sliding.

It may be possible to use a "Nylon Insert Lock Nut" instead of the "Acorn" nut
